cvELD FloatingWindows: A Must-Have Blender Add-On!

Hey Blender creators! Meet cvELD FloatingWindows, MIT-licensed add-on for Blender 4.4+ that lets you pop open extra editor windows right at your mouse cursor. It keeps them neatly on your screen and even lets you set custom shortcuts for each editor. Plus, it supports translations for a smoother workflow!

What Can It Do?

  • Spawn Windows Anywhere: Open editors like the Outliner, UV Editor, Graph Editor, Shader Editor, or Geometry Nodes right where your cursor is.
  • Stay on Screen: Windows are locked to your monitor, with flicker-free performance on Windows using native tech.
  • Custom Shortcuts: Set unique shortcuts and window sizes for each editor.
  • Close All Command: Shut all floating windows with one shortcut (works best on Windows; some restrictions apply on macOS/Linux).
  • Language Support: Use Japanese or other languages via a simple translation file.

Requirements

  • Blender 4.4 or later
  • Works on Windows,
  • macOS and Linux are also supported in terms of code, but we cannot guarantee they will work as we have not verified them.

How to Install

  1. Download or zip the cvELD_FloatingWindows folder.
  2. In Blender, go to Edit > Preferences > Add-ons and click Install.
  3. Select the folder or zip file, then enable “cvELD FloatingWindows.”

UV Editor7800 x 800

  • Press Shift + Ctrl + 0 to close all floating windows (works best on Windows).
  • Access all commands via Window > Floating Windows in Blender’s menu.

Customize It!

In Edit > Preferences > Add-ons > cvELD FloatingWindows, you can:

  • Add, remove, or reorder editors.
  • Tweak window sizes, shortcuts, and editor types.
  • Set a custom shortcut for closing all windows.

Changes apply instantly—no restart needed!

Add Your Language

  • Japanese translations are included in the translation.csv file.
  • Want another language? Add it to the CSV, reload the add-on, and Blender will use your UI language automatically.

Troubleshooting

  • “Close All” not working? Some systems limit window closing. On Windows, it uses a native close command, but macOS/Linux may vary.
  • English text in Japanese UI? Double-check the translation.csv file for exact matches with the code, then reload the add-on.
  • Add-on won’t enable? Check Blender’s console for errors and ensure no shortcut conflicts with other add-ons.
